a row of icicles
beneath the eaves ~
journey's end

spring garden
two angry frogs shouting
left then right

winter solstice~
the wren sings brown songs
in the pines

sway-backed barn
rusted harrow
lilac summer

empty house
wet with tears ~
a lonely mouse
 


   
   

foolish cricket in the closet
rubs noisy knees ~
too damn loud!

 

tired barn
dust in streams ~
horses nod in wooded dreams 

  fist fight
in the street ~
roses still blooming

 
 

butterfly wings roar ~
note to self
buy better wine

trout leapt
heart stopped
the smell of autumn

 
 

wood songs wild
sharp sounds small feet
don't talk

 

bare feet and cold oak floors
old house grums and groans ~
late autumn

 
  cat in the sink
sneezing
a scent of chrysanthemums
   

one-room schoolhouse
wood stove in winter ~
first and seventh grade freezing
   
   
lady slippers weep
a forlorn watch
over moss graves keep
